The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) flagged off the new Buddhist circuit tourist train from Safdurjung Railway Station in Delhi on Saturday (December 8).
The deluxe train with a mini library and luxury coaches will cover all the important destinations associated with Buddha's life. It will travel though Bodh Gaya, Rajgir (Nalanda), Varanasi (Sarnath), Lumbini, Kushinagar, Sravasti and end with a tour of Taj Mahal.
While the Buddhist train tour package has been running for the past 10 years with conventional Rajdhani coaches, Indian Railways felt the need to offer a new train with improved features, the Ministry of Railways said.
Manufactured in Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, the new deluxe train comprises 12 state-of-the-art Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches with four first AC coaches, two second AC coaches, one kitchen car, two dining cars, one staff car and two power cars. The entire train is fitted with CCTV cameras for better surveillance.
