The Congress top leadership intervened on Wednesday (January 9) to get a party leader from Punjab to withdraw a petition he had filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking a stay on the release of the movie, The Accidental Prime Minister, based on a book on former prime minister Manmohan Singh, reports the Indian Express.
Punjab sports minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi’s son Anumit Singh alias Hira Sodhi had filed the petition on Tuesday, claiming the movie “completely destroys” the image of Manmohan Singh. He also questioned the timing of the release of the movie ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and called it “political propaganda.”
The film starring Anupam Kher is scheduled to be released today.
